I was extremely lucky to be invited to a taster session of Tom Sellers ‘Golf Story’ at Abu Dhabi Golf Club last night, and I would urge anyone going to the HSBC Golf Championship this weekend to beeline straight to the hospitality area to be wowed by Toms menu.
A Bit of Background…
Tom Sellers has an impressive CV to say the least. He’s worked with the worlds best chefs, learning from the age of 16 to cook Michelin Star standard food. After a few years working away in New York City under Thomas Keller, Sellers went back to London to cook at Trinity restaurant and learn more about the business. After heading to Copenhagen to work in restaurant Noma (while it was recognised as the worlds number 1) Tom finally opened his own restaurant in 2013: Restaurant Story. The premise simple; to tell a story through the food he serves. Only five months after the restaurant opening, Restaurant Story gained it’s first Michelin Star, when Tom Sellers was only 26.
The HSBC Golf Championship Menu…
Chef Tom has brought Restaurant Story to the Middle East to celebrate the HSBC Golf Championship. The team will serve classic dishes from the Story menu, all with a golf-themed twist.
As well as catering from the HSBC VIPs, Golf Story will offer the above eight new dishes at the HSBC Beach Club throughout the tournament. Tom will be hosting a demonstration on Wednesday 20th January, putting the culinary skills of some of the worlds top golfers to the test!
At the tasting, we were able to try ‘On The Green’ and ‘Sweet Spot’. These were amazing interpretations of classic dishes, and I especially loved the layered strawberry jelly, strawberry puree, strawberry foam and cream, all topped with strawberry sherbet and drank through a straw. Matt may have had a couple 😉
