This has been such a funny little month.
So.Many.Things going on – it’s been quite hard to keep up with ourselves! We’ve had leaving do’s at The Botanist, Center Parcs with the family, and loads of stuff in between before moving out to Abu Dhabi to begin our new lives.
This meant a massive mess up of everything; I stopped logging food, stopped exercising and generally went into that ‘I don’t care‘ mode for the last two weeks in the UK. I was getting so mad at myself for giving in all of the time to going out and eating/drinking whatever I wanted – but as a lot of people mentioned on my Instagram when I put a post up about it – it was the time to enjoy my last couple of the weeks in the UK, and not time to be counting calories & macros.
After talking to Matt, we made a pact that we wouldn’t treat our first weeks here as a holiday and we’d get right down to business; eating healthily and exercising from the off. And true to our word, we did it! Matt’s been incredible support at the gym, and has absolutely SMASHED it since we got here on the 13th June – and we’ve both worked really hard on making sure our meals were healthy and portion controlled.
Let’s have a look at my weights & measurements, progress photos and more…
Weights and Measurements
Considering the horrendous two weeks I had nutritionally (and without much exercise as well) I felt like I really needed to try hard in our first couple of weeks in Abu Dhabi. We’ve been exercising 6 days a week, and I’ve been eating at a calorie deficit.
Here are the weights/measurements details from beginning to end:
It’s quite funny to look at all of the measurements in a table like this. The ups, the downs and all of the in-betweens right there in black and white.
My stomach (measured at the biggest part) along with the belly button measurement hasn’t changed in 6 months, but my waist has gone up and down by 1/2 inch sporadically. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to measure my Body Fat Percentage this month as my scales are in transit from the UK, but it’ll probably be around the 21-22% mark.
I am really happy that I’ve lost some weight within the last month, but it’s definitely all down to the last couple of weeks working incredibly hard with nutrition and exercise.
Check out my full exercise diary’s from June:
Yep, week 2 was absent. Totally absent because I didn’t do ANY exercise. NONE! How bad is that?! And week 1 isn’t much too look at to be fair. Only two days of exercise before I got a knee injury and could hardly walk. A poor excuse really – laughable!!
So, all in all, from day dot, this is what has changed:
Weight – Say bye bye to 10.5 pounds
Belly Measurement (biggest part) – 4 inches smaller
Belly Button Measurement – 4 inches smaller
Waist Measurement (smallest part) – 2.5 inches smaller
Thigh (biggest part) – 2 inches smaller
That’s a total of 12.5 inches lost!
And here goes with the progress photos…
First of all, I want to show you two and a half weeks progress from getting to Abu Dhabi until today. I was bloated and marshmallowy from two weeks of indulging, and I needed to turn it around. I took my calories right down to somewhere between 1300-1500 a day, and I have been exercising six days out of seven. 3 times a week HIIT & a small weights session, and then 3 days of pure weights (see my exercise diary for the past two weeks above).
Then of course you’ve got the regular progress photo’s from the very beginning until now:
So apart from the apparent loss in tan, I’m looking OK. I don’t know how I’ve done it, but I’ve lost some fluff from the beginning of June until now. I know that I could look SO much better if I stayed on track all of the time, but as I’ve mentioned before – there’s this little thing called life that gets in the way sometimes 😉
I’m far from perfect, as you’ll see from my Instagram photos of incredibly bad foods, but I think unless I had a trainer or was competing, with someone else in complete control of what I was doing for food and exercise, I just can’t be perfect 100% of the time. It’s not me. I love desserts, burgers & all things bad for me. And that’s not something you can just edit out. But I’m OK with eating as healthily as I can 90% of the time, because I’ve found and created new recipes which are stupidly tasty and reaaaaalllly good for you. I just need to stop binging for two weeks and then going mad trying to rectify everything.
The Plan Going Forward…
Well, we’re just going to do more of the same this month me thinks. It’s worked for the past two weeks here in Abu Dhabi, with a weekly ‘rest-day’ thats included Iftar’s and get-togethers with Matt’s new colleagues, so we’re just going to carry it on.
Matt has a July goal too! Now he’s wearing his Apple Watch, he has the Activity App which measures the following:
Move: This measures calorie burn, which Matt has set a goal of 700 cals.
Exercise: This measures strenuous exercise (anything above a walk), and the goal is set for 30 minutes.
Stand: This requires Matt to have stood and moved around for at least 1 minute for 12 different hours of the day.
Matt wants to fill each ring on the watch and achieve his goals every single day in July – and I think he can easily smash it. It’s not like he has to run a 10k every day – just get up and take a walk on rest days, and do what we’ve already been doing on work out days.
My goals?! To lose a couple more pounds and hopefully 1/2 inch off of my stomach area. It’ll all be down to that 90% eating and exercising well, and not going too crazy on a rest day.
